We’re really into the serious luxury end of the Lexus model line-up here, with the all-singing, all-dancing LS, the  the true pinnacle of Lexus’ luxury engineering. There is no large luxury sedan that is more comfortable and highly spec’d than this one, and if it’s the latest automotive thing to have, the odds are you’ll find it somewhere nestled inside the mighty LS.

When many new car buyers think of Lexus they think of large and fully-loaded luxury autos, packed with every conceivable comfort item that their heart could desire, and the LS is the pure embodiment of that potent picture. The LS is the smoothest way to transport the most comfortable of inner spaces, and it is these large, luxury cruisers that have made the Lexus brand what it is today.

A wide and clean front end is the home of a large chrome front grille, complete with a very large Lexus badge, as well as large back and up-swept headlights overlooked by a wide and long bonnet. The flat and deep sides of the LS cocoon the occupants with powerful and muscular bodylines, while more ultra-modern rear lights complete the luxury package, as advertised from the outside of the car.

But, it is only once inside the biggest and most expensive of the Lexus range that you truly get the right idea as to what has helped build this relatively young Japanese brand up to the point where it is now regarded as the maker of some of the finest luxury cars that money can buy. The large exterior of the makes way to a similarly large and expansive interior space, a space where the Lexus engineers have clearly had a jolly old time filling it with everything leather and electric that they can think of.

There’s a wide choice of leather and wood finishes and colours, so you can mix and match the LS interior completely to your taste, as well as a power-assisted reclining rear seat equipped with power leg rests and a special massage system is also available along with a folding table to turn your Lexus into a relaxing mobile office. There is also a nine-inch rear colour monitor mounted in the headliner accompanied by a nineteen-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system with a built-in hard drive that holds some four-thousand songs – more than enough for even the longest of journeys!

This big car needs a big engine, and the LS certainly gets that. The 4.6-litre, V8 petrol engine is more than up to the task of hauling all of that luxury, with 342bhp and 455Nm of torque sent through a state-of-the-art 8-speed automatic gearbox with manual shifting options. It’s a big car alright, but with this amount of power and the latest in computer-controlled suspension technology, you also get a capable car, too.
