2008 Saab 93 | new car review

Available in sedan as well as convertible body-styles, the is a compact executive car and comes across as an impressive package combining lusty turbocharged engines clad in smart bodywork and innovative interiors.

Currently in its third generation, the 2008 model-year 9-3 is all-new, sporting new frontal styling, door panels, a clamshell hood, and frosted rear lamps. As expected from , the driver’s environment is superb thanks to comfortable seats and a no-nonsense dash layout with the instruments
being a paragon of clarity.

Passengers in the rear have good headroom and decent legroom. Three adults can fit across the rear bench, although shoulder space is a little tight. The large boot can swallow plenty of luggage and the rear seat splits 60/40 to further maximize load carrying.

Available engines include turbocharged 2.0-litre and 2.8-litre petrol units making 210bhp and 255bhp respectively with power sent to the front wheels via available manual or automatic transmissions. Customers also have the choice of selecting the Saab proprietary 6-speed Sensotronic automatic transmission on the 9-3.

The 9-3 convertible is one of the safest cars Saab has ever built. The advanced safety system features active rollover protection, seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, airbags and whiplash protection. The 9-3 can be specified in different trims. The first stage is to choose between Linear, Vector and the high-performance Aero models, which can then be tailored to match individual style.

Targeted at BMW 3-Series buyers who want to be seen in something different from the crowd, the 9-3 acquits itself well in all situations, while providing occupants with a satisfying level of luxury. Sadly though, it still has some way to further its cause as brand perception along with price still matters a lot in this part of the world!
