2007 Opel Vectra | new car review

Posted on Jun 25, 2009 by

The Vectra is ’s
contender in the market and again like the Astra, hasn’t
been pushed aggressively to highlight its capabilities. It is
available as a four-door sedan and station-wagon along with a
five-door , known as the Vectra GTS.

The most distinctive
feature of the Vectra is the unique front end with cylindrical,
chrome-coloured lamp units behind clear glass. The rear end owes much
to its jewel-effect tail-lamps and strip of chrome which gives it
some character. The overall effect is handsome and the car has
presence, aided by the pretty distinctive headlamps.

The cabin is smartly
turned out with a good blend of smooth and textured surfaces and
logical placement of controls. Eight-way driver’s seat ensures a
good driving position with major controls within easy reach. The
dashboard and the instrumentation are par for the course for a car of
the Vectra’s class. In addition, all Vectra models feature a sporty
three-spoke steering wheel which light up the athletic nature of the
brand to some extend. The Vectra has generous passenger space with
head and leg room in the rear ranking among the best in class.

The Vectra as available
in the Middle East comes standard with just one engine – a
2.2-litre four-cylinder with direct injection technology that makes
155hp and 220Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels
via a standard five-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard safety equipment
includes front and side airbags, head curtain airbags as well as Opel
SAFETEC safety system, which includes the patented automatic Pedal
Release System (PRS). The extensive passive safety equipment is
rounded off by the Interactive Driving System (IDS) that provides a
high standard of driving precision and active safety.
