2008 Nissan Murano | new car review
Nissan’s trump card in the luxury compact utility segment, the Murano plays its part with great aplomb in its chosen category. From a meandering climb up a mountain trail to a jam-packed day in the city, the Murano is the crossover designed, engineered and built for your on-road adventures. But it’s the surefootedness of the all-wheel-drive system that positions the Murano as a true, ready-for-anything vehicle, though it would be a bit foolhardy to really venture into the great unknown in this crossover.
The Murano follows traditional crossover design language – a fusion of sports car genes with that of a traditional SUV. It has modern, athletic looks and there’s just no denying that there is nothing like it on the roads. Add comfort and safety to the design and performance and it is easy to see why the Murano has become one of the region’s success stories.
Inside, spaciousness combines with versatility and comfort to create a wonderful driving environment, featuring crafted and contoured seats with leather upholstery with memory function, brushed aluminium trim, an intelligently-designed instrument panel, and multi-purpose information centre. Power comes from the wonderfully capable VQ engine, a 3.5-litre V6 that produces 265hp at 6000 rpm and 355Nm of torque at 4400 rpm. Coupled to the engine is a unique offering in the Murano’s segment of the market – a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that features a six-speed manual mode. Power is transmitted to the road via Nissan’s electronically controlled switchable 4×4 system.
