2008 Nissan Altima | new car review

’s bread and butter car in the mid-size sedan category when it comes to the Middle East market, the Altima has grown up from being a basic no-nonsense sedan to one that bustles with new technologies. For the , the Altima is totally new both inside as well as outside and the sedan is joined by a variant this year. The 2008 Altima projects an aggressive image with a new Nissan “T-shaped” grille, powerful front fenders and strong wedge character line, forward A-pillars, Nissan family roofline, dual exhausts and jet fighter-inspired taillights. Even though the overall length of the Altima has shortened by a few millimetres in comparison to the previous car, the interior remains as copious as it can get in the mid-size sedan category with generous space for five adults. Two engines are available – the award-winning VQ-series V6 and an inline 4-cylinder. The 3.5-litre 24-valve DOHC V6 is rated at 285hp with 366Nm of torque while the 2.5-litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder produces 188hp and 257Nm of torque. Both the engines are available with a choice of two transmissions – a new 6-speed, narrow-gate manual or an advanced CVT that replaces the previous conventional automatic transmission. The comes with the bigger 3.5-litre engine and is a lively car with shades of the 350Z. The sedan comes in different trim levels while the is fully loaded with all  the goodies. A success story in the Middle East, the Altima delivers on all counts: price, performance, space, and engineering. Technical Specifications
