2008 Lexus SC 430 | new car review

Posted on Jun 24, 2009 by

Lexus’ vision of a European sports car, the SC430 seems to plug on unabatedly. Its sublime curves, striking headlamps, the integrated spoiler at the back all combine to give the 430 an athletic look – all muscle and no flab. This Coupe is a stunning car and pressing a button results in an equally stunning convertible.

The squat stance of this handsome Lexus sports coupe/convertible is definitely peppered with styling cues to suit all tastes, with an elongated wheelbase and sensuous skin stretched tightly around the flared wheel arches. With the top raised, the SC430 acquires a dynamic silhouette with shades of classic retro, while on open top motoring, the car gains a fast and fluid silhouette.

The aluminium hardtop can appear or disappear in just 25 seconds, activated by a toggle switch on the dashboard. The roofline (top up) is sleek and presents a slippery profile as befitting a top-line luxury sports car that has guile and gusto in equal measure.

Inside the SC 430 are plenty of space and loads of creature comforts. The cabin is luxurious and features wood and leather trimmings. Trim quality is among the finest and surpasses the levels for a car of this type and class. An impressive Mark Levinson music system with nine speakers and in-dash CD changer provides rich acoustics.

As with most coupe convertible with sporty leanings, the SC430 is a 2+2 rather than a proper four-seater. Power is distributed to the rear wheels via a 5-speed super electronically controlled automatic transmission with the 4.3-litre engine with VVT-I generating 282bhp and 419Nm of torque.

Even though it now getting a bit long in the tooth, the SC430 still remains one good looking machine which also has the grunt under its svelte skin to thrill. That it is not seen much on the roads of the Middle East is a shame really, as it does have what it takes to stand up admirably to the opposition.
