2008 Lexus RX 350 | new car review

Posted on Jun 24, 2009 by

A car-based luxury mid-sizer designed to transport five in roomy comfort, Lexus designed the RX even before the word crossover was coined. True to the word, the RX350 is a class leading crossover that is reliable, comfortable and luxurious, and its customers just love it! In fact, it could be rightly called the forerunner of a raft of crossover vehicles from rival manufacturers who have watched the success of this model through the years.

A no non-sense ride, the RX350 gives more cargo room than a sedan while conferring an over-the-traffic view and a feeling of security from its lofty driving position. Its full time 4-wheel drive system is capable to take you through some of the sandy beaches but not through the sand dunes around. Power comes from a 3.5-litre DOHC V6 engine under its hood churning out 270bhp and 341Nm of torque when needed. A slick five-speed automatic with Tiptronic ensures power goes to all four wheels.

Luxury is evident in the interior and almost everything a driver might want is fitted as standard. A premium Mark Levinson audio system, multi function steering wheel, powerful air conditioning, and sun/moon roof are some of the fitments embodying its leather and wood trims.

Standard safety features include anti-lock 4-wheel disc brakes, vehicle stability control, brake assist, dual front, side and driver’s side knee SRS airbags. Bumped up in engine volume and features through the years, the RX350 seems to have reached its zenith. How long it will continue is anybody’s guess!
