2008 Kia Cerato | new car review

Posted on Jun 24, 2009 by

The design, dimensions
and profile of the Cerato reflects contemporary European tastes as
Kia strives to give its products a distinct universal flavour.
Accordingly, the Cerato’s exterior is matched to a spacious and
up-to-date interior which will hold five adults and their luggage.
Once again, there’s a conscious emphasis on refinement and the use
of good quality materials inside. This has been necessitated by the
Cerato’s positioning in the market where it has formidable
competition in the form of the Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sunny and Honda
Civic, to name but a few. While it may not exceed the parameters set
by its rivals, it definitely comes close to matching them.

The interior is simple,
modern and efficient. The dashboard is divided horizontally with the
upper surfaces in a dark colour (to reduce reflections and glare),
which is continued around the upper surfaces of the door. The central
fascia is finished in good plastics to match the colour tone of the
interior and features a metal-grain finish for a visually high-tech
look.

The Cerato is offered
in the Middle East with two body styles – sedan and hatchback –
with two four-cylinder engines on offer -1.6-litre and 2.0-litre with
a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes. The smallest unit makes
104bhp (and 143Nm of torque) while the 2.0-litre engine develops
143bhp with 186Nm of torque, thanks to its CVVT (continuously
variable valve timing) technology.

The high level of
standard equipment includes twin front airbags, air conditioning,
remote central locking, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, audio with
CD/MP3 and split/folding rear seats.

The
Cerato is one of those cars that you just get into and drive – no
fuss – no drama – it just does its job.
