2008 Jeep Cherokee
Posted on June 24, 2009 by Editor

The all-new Jeep Cherokee sits in the range between the Patriot and Grand Cherokee and is built on a two-inch shorter version of the base underpinning the Dodge Nitro. The sharing of platforms between models has become a norm in recent times and makes good commercial sense to manufacturers as it saves a lot of greenbacks in development and what have you. With the Cherokee, Jeep is targeting buyers of the LR2, Prado, MR-V and the Pajero with this off-roader.
The Jeep Cherokee has been a significant chapter in the american auto makers line-up and the new model introduced late last year is a fine example of off-road capability and on-road finesse. With only a single engine to play with, Jeep has energized
their abilities to give this smart off-roader attention in other areas.
The current model has hard plastic lining its insides giving it a rugged feel. Considering the general layout and scheme of things around, it’s not an unpleasant place to be in as there’s bundle of flexibility to play with. The Cherokee’s second row seats fold flat, as does the front passenger seat, to provide plenty of room for hauling boxes, cycles and other lifestyle accessories like a hard drive to store songs, photos and what have you.
The Cherokee can be availed of with the optional Sky Slider canvas roof for an open-air experience. The Sky Slider roof can be moved to several positions, including full forward, full rear or partially open to any position in-between with a convenient one-touch switch. It is made of reinforced acrylic cloth which is weather-resistance and leak-proof.
The Cherokee continues with the 3.7-litre V6 (210bhp and 318Nm), mated to a six-speed manual transmission that can be optioned for a four-speed automatic. All trim lines come with a part-time, shift-on-the-fly transfer case;
automatic-equipped models can be optioned with an active full-time four-wheel system.
