2008 Hyundai Coupe | new car review, prices & specs

If you want a new sports car but don’t want to spend a lot, the 2008 is worth considering. It was completely re-designed inside outside last year, making it the third makeover after 2000 and 2005. By the way, it was first introduced in the USA way back in 1996.

The front end features elongated headlights and a new, more aggressive letterbox like grille and new fog lights. Side air vents incorporate the indicator repeater lights, while the re-shaped rear features a more sculpted look with fully integrated twin tailpipes and restyled rear light clusters. All these cues combine to give the 2008 Coupe a lively personality – one that is smart and functional without being overtly dependent on style just for the sake of being noticed.

The interior is stylish and spacious boasting high quality cloth or leather seats – it depends on how much you want to pay. There is a sleeker, sportier look and feel to the inside with a new metal-look finish.

Engines and transmissions remain unchanged for 2008, offering a mix of affordability and outright performance. The entry-level Hyundai Coupe comes with a punchy 138hp (181Nm) 4-cylinder 2.0-litre engine which is surprisingly quite peppy. Then there is the 2.7-litre, DOHC 24-valve, Delta V6, developing 167hp and 245Nm of torque. Both powerplants have the option of being shifted by either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2008 Hyundai Coupe is quite a competent sports car but still has some way to go before buyers really start looking its way more objectively. It should make a good buy for those who do not mind just the two seats (the rear seats are just for show basically as in most 2+2s) and are constrained by costs.
