2007 Honda Accord | new car review

Posted on Jun 24, 2009 by

Honda has introduced an all-new Accord for the 2008MY. The new mid-size family sedan has outgrown its predecessors in size and all other dimensions. Fortunately or  otherwise, Accord’s traditional image as a sporty sedan has changed altogether and the car is now more conservative in appearance. For customers looking for a sportier  Accord, Honda also has the Coupe version to stir the passions of those who want to stand out from the crowd.

Every aspect of the eighth-generation car, from styling and interior to engine and chassis, has been reworked. The sculpted Accord is a far more substantial-sized car than it looks at first glance, thanks to its angular lines coupled with organic forms.

Honda is offering the Accord sedan and coupe versions with two powerplants both featuring its famed i-VTEC technology. The rice bowl of the Honda line-up is the base 2.4-litre engined Accord. This 2.4-litre DOHC L4 engine delivers 178 horsepower, whereas the more powerful 3.5-litre SOHC V6 makes 271bhp. The V6 model also features  Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system that shuts down or activates cylinders for optimal balance between performance and fuel efficiency at cruising speeds. Both the powerplants are shifted using a standard 5-speed automatic transmission. There is also an option for a 5-speed manual on the 2.4-litre variant.

Inside, the Accord features enough room to seat five adults comfortably. The wider body size and lower floor have enabled Honda engineers to create a spacious cabin  space. The dashboard is a mix of tasteful wood-grain finish panels and metallic accents. The sedan is offered in four versions – 2.4LX, 2.4EX, 3.5LX and 3.5EX.

The Accord uses Honda’s Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system — standard equipment on the 35LX and 35EX — for a high level of active safety. World-leading collision  safety along with advanced seatbelts and pedestrian protection technology combine to provide a high level of passive safety as well.
