2008 Ford Fiesta | new car review

With the Fiesta, Ford joins the growing band of manufacturers bringing compact cars to the region. Although it is wider, longer and taller than its predecessor, it retains its small-car stature. The German-made small wonder from Ford concentrates on what matters the most to small-car customers: space, style, value, driving quality and safety.

The exterior design shows close family links with Ford’s new ‘Kinetic’ design philosophy. The body line has been simplified and made more harmonious with more ‘volume’ in the surfaces to help communicate high levels of craftsmanship.

Interior is as functional and doesn’t pamper its occupants when considering the pricing. The dash is stylish, without compromising clarity and ease of use. All the controls are bold and well placed. As one moves up the range, more features are accessible. With enough space for four adults with some reasonable cargo space thrown in – two  suitcases can be squeezed in without disrupting rear seating – the interior volume of this small car is apt for a small family.

The Fiesta for the Middle East is powered by a 80hp 1.4-litre Sigma series engine. Despite not being the largest car in its class, the Fiesta is the story of achieving  package efficiency. Fiesta’s interior has been optimised to create comfort and space for five occupants and their cargo. Luggage capacity is 284 litres which means that it can accommodate two large suitcases in its boot without sacrificing any rear space.

Available in four different trim levels: Base, Ambiente, Trend and Ghia, the Fiesta is equipped with impressive active and passive safety features. These include among  others Ford’s Intelligent Protection System that incorporates dual-stage front air bag technology.
