2008 Ford Crown Victoria – Exterior Side | new car review

Contrary to trends showing that small cars are the way forward, large V8-powered sedans continue to make a comeback. But the Crown Victoria is one of the very few  full-size, rear-wheel drive sedans that never left. Still plugging along very nicely in the region (especially Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), this car along with other big American  cars and SUVs just seem to attract buyers like flies to a light.

The reason for is not its dynamic looks or high tech gadgetry; both which seem to be in short supply when compared to the crop of new vehicles on the road now. What sets  this car apart is the massive expanse of space that one gets on the inside to carry a large family along with half their household items. Add to this a typical ride that is plush  and soft, along with excellent levels of passenger compartment quietness to ascertain why this car is such a perennial favourite in the Middle East. No wonder, Ford does  not want to put it to rest, after all, why change a good thing which is a fantastic brand ambassador!

The Crown Vic’s styling is deliberately conservative, and under the lengthy hood lies a 4.6-litre V8 with 244hp and 390Nm on tap feeding out through a slushy and  soft-cushioned auto transmission. Ford makes great mileage out of the fact that the car is officially rated as one of the safest on the road, in the event of a front crash. This  might be because there are several yards of bonnet between the windscreen and the industrial-sized front bumper.

Available in Standard and LX trims, the Crown Vic is kept up to date with equipment that is common in today’s vehicles although, like the exterior, the inside is also kept  low key to encourage the familiarity its buyers expect.
