had a 21 per cent increase in car sales in the region in the first
half of the 2008 Financial Year with the X5 premium mid-size SUV
named the best seller amongst the entire BMW line-up. The
announcement was made by Phil Horton, Managing Director, BMW Group
Middle East at a press briefing held in Dubai yesterday.

The X5 sold 1,843 units
in the region recording an increase of 66 per cent as againast the
same period in 2007. BMW’s current flagship SUV, the X6, launched in
March 2008, also sold close to 596 units until June 2008. The 3
Series – BMW’s ‘bread-and-butter’ car increased its sales by 6 per
cent compared to last year selling 1690 units across the region. The
7 & 5 Series sedan models each sold 1202 vehicles.

Across its 14 importers
in the region, 7,953 BMW and MINI vehicles were sold with Dubai
achieving the highest overall sales volumes. While Abu Dhabi, Saudi
Arabia and Kuwait were the next
best selling markets, BMW’s highest growth rates were recorded in
Lebanon and Abu Dhabi, which grew 68 per cent and 56 per cent
respectively.

BMW
Middle East will launch the all-new 7 Series flagship model in
November this year along with a significantly re-styled 3 Series
sedan. “Both the 3 and 7 Series are important models for the brand
on a global and local level and the Middle East is the company’s
fourth biggest market worldwide for BMW 7 Series sales,” added Phil
Horton.
