Alpine A610

renault alpine sports car Alpine A610Have you heard of the Alpine sports cars? For those of you who have
no clue about this brand, here’s a little intro – Alpine was a French
manufacturer of bespoke racing and sports cars that used rear mounted
Renault engines. The last Alpine to be made before Renault decided to
call it off was the A610 that rolled off from its assembly plant in
the small town of Dieppe in France in late 1994.

Renault
is planning to resurrect the Alpine brand of sports cars once again
as part of its target of introducing 26 new models to its lineup, and
for this it is planning to bring out a fuel efficient and affordable
sports car underpinning its corporate cousin, the Nissan 350Z. Good
for Renault as they need a ‘halo’ car in the line-up, but haven’t we
also heard that Nissan is working on an entry-level sportscar too –
possibly a successor to the 200SX line of cars!

The
Alpine’s classic focus on light weight and affordability will be the
main criterion in the success of the brand especially when the price
of fuel is going up by the hour. We presume the Alpine sports car
will be classed to compete with the likes of Mazda’s MX-5 and Honda’s
S2000.
