2007 Saab 95 | new car review

The 9-5 line-up continues to offer a well-rounded package of performance, luxury and value in the midsize sport sedan category, with an Anniversary Special Edition scheduled to debut mid-year. The 9-5 will be replaced by a new model based on GM’s Epsilon 2 platform, shared with the next generation 9-3.

The 2007 9-5 sedan features a sophisticated, aircraft-inspired design inside and out with optional Aero and Visibility Packages. The Aero Package includes a sport chassis, sport seats, metallic interior trim and an “Aero” badge; the Visibility Package offers Xenon headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and rear parking assist.

Available in four-door sedan variant as well as a five-door stationwagon, the cars are powered by a single 2.3-litre inline 4 cylinder turbocharged engine producing 260 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, mated to automatic Sentronic transmissions.

The 9-5 continues with Saab’s long-running tradition of offering class leading safety features. It was the first to pioneer the availability of ventilated seats with active headrests (SAHR, Saab Active Head Restraint) that moved up and forward to prevent whiplash when the car is struck from the rear. This feature has won several technology and safety awards all over the world.

Though there have not been many changes done on the exterior of the 2007 model-year, Saab engineers have really worked well on the inside as well as the underpinnings. The front suspension benefits from increased spring rates on the sport chassis, increased damping on the sport and standard chassis, and a larger anti-roll bar on the standard chassis. The power steering system was recalibrated to increase steering effort and improve feedback and precision. The rear suspension features a larger anti-roll bar and softer springs on the standard chassis, reduced toe-in for more predictable behaviour, and increased track. Damping has been increased on the standard and sport chassis.
