2007 Maybach 57S | new car review

With its enhanced performance and additional individualisation features, this variant of the 57 meets the exclusive wishes of demanding customers for even greater engine output and agility. To match the increased power, the suspension of the 57S is set up for a somewhat firmer response – making it the ideal high-end luxury saloon for owner-drivers who appreciate an engaging experience at the wheel. The extra 45 hp output compared with the 57 is provided by an enhanced version of the 6-litre V12 biturbo engine developed in co-operation with Mercedes-AMG. This power plant can propel the 57 S from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds.

It is a fair bet to say that the S does not stand for Sporting: more like Superlative, though some might also think it is the acronym for Superfluous. Meanwhile, the extraordinarily large pair of cars sell in small, but significant numbers as befits what is essentially a custom-built machine.

Whatever, one might construe it to be, there is no denying the sheer presence of this well-appointed car, incorporating all the latest technological gizmos to be found on a car of this pedigree.
