2008 Infiniti QX56 | new car review

Posted on Jun 19, 2009 by

The 56 full-size luxury SUV combines all the luxury appointments with seating for up to eight, generous cargo and towing capacity, plus rugged capability. Infiniti’s monster-sized sports utility or full-size SUV, in industry speak, is in common with many of the machines in this segment, up against stiff competition basically from American manufacturers.

Propelled by its powerful 5.6-litre, 360-horsepower and 584 Nm developing V8 engine, this behemoth is no slouch. Power is supplied to all four wheels via an electronically controlled 5-speed automatic gearbox. The 4×4 is Infiniti’s All-Mode with a computer-controlled transfer case, featuring a low range, so taking off to play on the sand dunes should be no big deal, although not recommended given its mass.

The major exterior enhancements to the QX56 include a new design 20×8 inch chromed aluminium-alloy wheels along with standard rear sonar sensors and rear suspension levelling system. Standard features include rear privacy glass, power flip-up lift gate windows; and running boards. A full complement of occupant protection is available with air bags all around.

Inside the uniqueness continues with leather upholstery and thick carpeting setting the tone. This is complemented by the leather and wood steering wheel, aluminium instrument panel finish and trim highlights in genuine macore wood. The signature Infiniti analog clock sits at the bottom of the centre stack. Its opulent cabin is lathered in leather and stuffed with technology. Navigation with Birdview touchscreen, Bluetooth and Lane Guidance are also available and all vehicle information systems are guided by the Infiniti Controller.

It comes standard with latest in electronic stability control, traction control and ABS technology, all of which can help you maintain control in emergency handling situations, and the available all-wheel-drive system further improves handling stability in slippery conditions.

The QX56 is as luxurious as the best of them.
