2007 Ford Fiesta | new car review

Ford’s European all-time small favourite, the Fiesta brings an array of class leading features that reinforce Ford’s commitment to rejuvenate its small-car range. The German-made entry level offering from Ford concentrates on what matters most to small-car customers: space, style, value and driving quality.

Following a redesign in 2006, the Fiesta builds on its value for money offer by offering a small on the outside yet big on the inside B-segment vehicle to younger, first-time customers.

Giving motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe, the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro-NCAP) gave the 2006 Fiesta a four-star safety rating.

Features of the Fiesta that contributed to attaining this rating include the Intelligent Protection System that incorporates dual-stage front air bag technology along with a robust body structure.

The interior has been optimised to create comfort and space for five occupants and their cargo – it can accommodate two large suitcases in its boot without sacrificing any of the rear seating area. Although it is wider, longer and taller than its predecessor, it retains its small-car stature.

Despite not being the largest car in its class, Fiesta excels in package efficiency, with front seat roominess comparable with a vehicle in the next class. Rear seat roominess is also commendable with ample rear-passenger knee clearance and headroom. There is 284 litres of space available behind the rear seats.

The ride and handling characteristics are lively and said by experts to be better than those of the highly acclaimed model of the late 1990s. It is lively, while retaining good fuel economy, which is becoming an increasingly important factor in the choice of car for this entry level segment.
