2008 Chrysler 300C | new car review

The arrival of the rear-wheel drive Chrysler 300C heralded in a new styling-cum-design era for large American sedans. In a way, the 300c has given the large rear-wheel-drive American car sector a new lease of life with its strong macho looks. It’s also a car that can be described as a steel fist in a velvet glove because it has the awesome 5.7-litre Hemi V8 nestling under the long bonnet and the styling shows that it means business.

The styling is a kind of straight in-your-face and a far cry from the swoopy lines of its predecessors – 300M and the Concorde. The sheet metal lines seem to last forever with the greenhouse area seemingly quite small for a car of this size which is nearly 16 feet long.

Space inside the 2008 Chrysler 300C is business class with trim levels giving it a luxury feel. The front seats are big and comfy with the driver’s seat having eight-way adjustment (front passenger seat is only four-way alterable). Obviously, the 300C has the full complement of safety technology, both passive and active.

The 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox and offers 340 bhp on tap. It also benefits from Chrysler’s Multi-Displacement System which deactivates four cylinders seamlessly when in cruise mode.

Unlike sloppy American ars of the past, the ride quality and agility in the 300C is a perfect balance between American attitude and German comfort as it benefited from a lot of Mercedes-Benz expertise. And for those 300C enthusiasts who would like a tuned and kitted version of this car, there’s an SRT version with lowered suspension, bigger rims, fatter tyres and a bored out 431hp 6.1-litre Hemi.
