2008 Chevrolet Lumina | new car review

Posted on Sep 22, 2008 by

The design of the 2008 Lumina exploits the benefits of a large rear-wheel-drive platform, delivering classic proportions and an athletic stance. The new architecture includes subtle sporting details that are indicative of the car’s image and a tribute to the model’s motorsport heritage.

The current generation of the mid-sized rear wheel drive Lumina sedan line-up was completely revamped in 2006, reinforcing the Lumina’s reputation as a true driver’s car. Available in five variants – the LS, LTZ, S, SS and high performance CSV CR8 – Lumina has been one of Chevrolet’s icons in the region.

While the interior offers a spaciousness that is sporty and stylish, with controls focussed more towards the driver, it is what under the bonnet that actually defines the character of the car. Enhanced power, with more torque characterise the engines of the Lumina S and SS. A 3.6-litre V6 engine is available in the LS, LTZ and S models, delivering peak power of 240hp and 330 Nm. The 6.0-litre V8 EFI engine is standard on the SS and delivers a whopping peak power of 360hp along with 530 Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

For those with a motorsport bent, the CSV CR8 is a precise, credible machine with phenomenal engine performance: it does the ton in only 4.9 seconds. The powertrain, belting out 400 hp with 550 Nm of torque, is sourced from the Corvette. Needless to say, performance is exhilarating and it should be, as the CR8 is basically a racing car equally at home on the road as well as on track. Riding on 19-inch low-profile wheels, the CSV CR8 is hard to miss with its large fender vents that are unique to the model. This leads on to an aggressive and distinctive front fascia with projector headlamps, duel driving lights and a prominent CSV badge to warn others of its explosive performance.

Packed with ample does of testosterone, is every man’s fantasy and a big hit with locals.

The oil type for this car is 5w-30. Be careful not to use 20w-50

You can use Shell High Ultra or Castrol Magnetic 5w-30

And the transmission oil is Dexron 6
