2008 Chevrolet Caprice | new car review

Posted on Sep 22, 2008 by

The Caprice, along with the Lumina saw an image change two years back. A new rear-wheel drive platform and a clean sheet approach to all aspects of the car saw the Caprice shed its bulge to become leaner and visually more pleasing.

Available in a vast array of models to suit different mindsets, Chevrolet offers an impressive medley of options and features on the 2008 to suit customer requirements. Powered by standard 6.0L V8 engines, the Caprice LS, LTZ, SS and Royale deliver a standard peak power of 360hp and peak torque of 520Nm. The LS and LTZ models are also available with the 3.6 litre V6 engine, delivering 240hp and peak torque of 335 Nm. A four-speed automatic transmission does duty on all four models.

The new chrome grille on the Royale gives a distinguished appearance to the front, whilst at the back LED brake-lamps increase in intensity depending upon the brake pressure applied – a good safety feature. The modern and angular exterior harmonises beautifully with the enduring saloon shape. When it comes to carrying rear seat passengers, generous becomes something of an understatement when it comes to space. The amount of legroom is outstanding – one of the largest found in any car!

Caprice has comprehensive safety systems in the areas of crash avoidance, and also occupant protection. ABS Brakes and Traction Control are also available throughout the range.

Whereas earlier the Caprice was aimed squarely at the older driver, the current version is tuned at a wider age group. Where the Caprice comes into its own is when cruising for hours along the ribbons of tarmac that criss-cross the Middle East – the big lazy engines rumble along with no apparent effort.
