new 2009 Safrane mid-size sedan in the United Arab Emirates. The
Safrane will join as a third car in Renault’s current UAE passenger
car line-up which comprises of the entry-level Clio and the entry-mid
(small) Megane.

Like we had hinted
earlier (read here), the Safrane is based on a Renault Samsung Motors
model – the SM5. Two engine options are available – a 2.0-litre
4-cylinder making 143bhp and a 2.3-litre V6 putting out a max of
170bhp. The base four-cylinder model is mated to a 4-speed automatic
while the 2.3-litre will get a 5-speed automatic with tiptronic mode.
There is no manual gearbox available for the Safrane.

The new Safrane will be
available in three trim levels – 2.0 PE (AT), 2.3 SE (AT) and the
top-of-the-range 2.3 LE (AT). Renault claims the 2.0-litre to be very
frugal unit with fuel economy of 9.3litres/100 kilometres. Like the
smaller Megane, the Safrane also feature Renault’s proprietary ‘Smart
Card Technology’ for ease of use. For safety, ABS with EBD, EBA and
SSPS (Speed Sensitive Power Steering) and up to six airbags are
standard on the new Safrane.

The Safrane is available
through Arabian Automobiles in the UAE with prices ranging between
AED59,900 to AED79,000. Renault GCC has also launched their new
comprehensive customer car progremme called ‘Customer First’. The new
programme provides 11 complimentary services before and following the
purchase of any Renault vehicle.
