2008 Nissan Sunny | new car review

Posted on Jul 10, 2008 by

One of the most successful compact sedans in automotive history, the Sunny is renowned for its fuel economy, durability, affordability and low maintenance costs. For , the Sunny still carries on unabatedly in the hotly contested compact car segment. Although the arrival of ’s Tiida sedan has taken away some of car’s appeal as well as sales among the masses, the evergreen Sunny still holds great ground when it comes to reliability and re-sale values.

The Sunny had a mild makeover last year and so it continues on. The design definitely needs to be bought up to style in keeping with the times. The design as is now might appeal to those who seek a reliable car but surely the Sunny seems to be losing its shine.

It’s the interiors, however, where the Sunny still retains its composure – it now gets a 3-spoke steering wheel and a stepped gate-type shifter. Better trim levels and quality  fabric give it some flair.

Unlike in the previous generation car where Nissan offered three different engine options to choose from, the Sunny for 2008 comes available with only an economical  1.6-litre four-cylinder unit that makes 116hp with power sent to the front wheels via either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. This seems to be a strategic move so as to not compete with its Tiida sibling. Two trims lines are offered – SE and PE.

The Sunny, despite its makeover, seems to have reached the end of its lifecycle and is on the phase out stage.

      Hi Tony,

Step one would be to check if the battery is in good condition! The heat takes its toll on our cars and all of their components.

Its so pathetic that Nissan keeps re-releasing this car every two years or so without much changes as if suddenly people change mind and start buying it.

      Dear Sir / Madam,
My car is Nissan Sunny 2008 model, assembled in Korea. Since last one year I am facing problem while driving. The exact problem is the accelerator (racing) coming down suddenly while the car is having full speed in any gear(s). I tried to repair through local expert and experienced Auto Mechanics, but of no use. Neither of them were able to identify the exact problem, and the problem could not rectified. Whenever Mechanics tried to repair and Computerized checked, the Car started running maximum one week alright without above problem (accelerator clock showing coming down, however, after a week’s or maximum two week’s, the accelerator position again going down while running the Car.
I would appreciate and pray to Almighty for your kind help to suggest / recommend me the exact solution to rectify the above problem. Needless to mention, I am totally fed up with the above problem, and while on road; I experienced very embarrassing and scaring situation while practical driving.
      Thanks and regards,
