2008 Cadillac XLR

This is the Corvette of
Cadillac and is intended to provide an all-American choice to those
who want a luxurious sports roadster. The XLR is a hardtop
convertible with a retractable roof that opens or closes in about 30
seconds at the press of a button. Its styling is powerful and
distinctively Cadillac with its sharply creased lines while it’s
interior is inviting yet sporty. Engineered on the Corvette platform,
the XLR is Cadillac’s vision of what a sports roadster ought to be.

In many ways, the design
is unique splitting opinion – some would be keen on the sharp creased
lines, while some would find it too extreme. But whatever, there’s
no denying that the XLR will never be mistaken for anything else on
the road with its inimitable yet controversial in-your-face kind of
allure.

A car has to have the
guts to go with the looks and the XLR delivers on this count with a
320hp 4.6-litre V8 engine up front under its long, wide hood.
Delivering exhilarating performance, the power is transmitted through
a six-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. Harnessing all this
power to keep the XLR firmly planted on the road is Cadillac’s
Magnetic Ride Control and StabiliTrak.

Modern features include
head-up display, adaptive cruise control, heated and cooled seats,
keyless access with push-button start and DVD entertainment.
Eucalyptus wood inserts and Bvlgari-styled instrument panel venture
to create an aura of luxury inside.

If you’re hunting for
attitude on every curve – and you have the money for it – the XLR is
not a bad choice. It’s an inimitable, prototypical American muscle
car fully attired for a black-tie lifestyle as well as tee and jeans
culture. And if this doesn’t whet your appetite, then there’s the
potent V-Series to choose from with a more powerful engine and
sports-biased suspension.
