Ford brings in the funky new edge
Ford’s all-new mid-size CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) – Edge – has hit the showrooms in United Arab Emirates. Designed and positioned to attract younger customers into its fold, the 2007 Edge is a funky new CUV that shares its platform with the Lincoln MKX (also introduced this year and available in the UAE).
Featuring step-down headlights and a chrome three-bar grille on the front, Ford has managed to put a bold, new, yet recognizable face on the Edge. The CUV looks more American that anything else while at the same time looking absolutely contemporary with other similar vehicles from around the world. To give its occupants a feeling of wind-in-the-hair motoring, the Edge comes with a panaromic roof system called Vista Roof.
“Edge is packed with Ford innovation – from the panoramic glass roof and laptop-friendly centre console to its fuel-saving engine and advanced safety features. We are confident that Edge will make waves to the hot crossover market this year,” said Hussein Murad, Sales & Marketing director of Ford Middle East.
As part of the ongoing campaign leading to the launch of the CUV in the UAE, Ford Middle East has joined hands with popular music retailer Virgin Megastore to send 200 lucky customers to witness the live performance of some of the world’s top 150 DJs at the Global Gathering 2007 in the United Kingdom. “This promotion is a natural fit with our youth communications strategies and we believe the exciting new youth models we’re launching, especially the new Edge, will be instant hits with Virgin customers,” Murad added.
Whether it’s a hit with Virgin customers or not, we are quite enamoured with the gutsy styling of the Edge and just can’t wait to get behind the wheel of this new CUV, which is powered by a 286-horsepower 3.5-litre V6 engine and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission for sporty performance along with frugal fuel economy. Prices range between AED 115,000-125,000.
