2008 Infiniti M | new car review

Posted on Feb 8, 2007 by

Heading the Infiniti line-up is its new flagship, the M45 premium luxury sedan. The M has been elevated to the top rung to replace the Q45. The most technologically advanced vehicle ever built by Infiniti, the M45 is joined this year by the M35 featuring a smaller engine under the same skin.

Exciting performance, dramatic styling and luxurious interiors are synonymous to the M twins. Its exterior design radiates a sense of professional confidence akin to a successful banker wearing an Armani business suit, but is yet capable of running the 100 metre sprint with aplomb if called to do so. Like most of the competition, the M45 transmits its power to the rear wheels for better traction and handling.

Behind the steering, one is surrounded by a driver-oriented cockpit with emphasis on simplicity. Most technology and creature comfort gizmos that one can expect from a car in this segment are present. The list includes parking sensors, DVD navigation, intelligent key, hands-free Bluetooth phone, rear view camera, push button ignition, and a Bose audio system with MP3, along with AFS (Adaptive Front headlight
System), tyre pressure monitor and climate control seats.

Under its hood, the M45 sports a muscular, high torque 4.5-litre DOHC V8 power plant capable of cranking out 476 Nm and 362 hp – more horses than most V8 competitors. Powering the M35 is Nissan’s award-winning 3.5-litre, V6 VQ35DE engine. Power tops out at 289
hp/6200 rpm, with maximum torque of 371 Nm/4800 rpm. Both the M twins are mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with short-throw performance shifter and manual shift mode.
